Margot

Breathing Room Founder, Teacher & YTT Lead Trainer

Being introduced to yoga at 13, Margot found herself incorporating the teachings and practices into multiple areas of her life from an early age. The intrigue of yoga led Margot to find ways of learning more, helping build yoga programs at her high school and even teaching peers asana in college, this formed Margot’s budding leadership skills, leading her to take her first teacher training at 22.

Margot earned degrees in Entrepreneurship and Small business management at Quinnipiac Univ. before beginning a career in Interior Design and Architecture. After six years in the field and one big crash in the market, Margot was laid off from the firm she was with and began to work at a local antique shop while teaching more yoga classes in the New Haven area.

And so, out of loss and inspiration, Breathing Room was born. Combining her love of yoga with her unique design sense, Margot created a small but cozy one room yoga studio in the back of the antique shop in which she worked. Teaching classes on lunch breaks and after the shop closed. The community grew with students and teachers and Margot expanded the studio to a larger location on Chapel St. and years later to its current home on Crown St. in downtown New Haven.

Margot and Breathing Room’s journey has been a beautiful and challenging one. One that has helped build a community of individuals looking to know the self through dedication, connection, and practice.

Margot’s style of teaching comes from over 1000 hours of training in Asana, philosophy, Ayurveda, Reiki & Energy work, Vinyasa, and Iyengar, among other styles and disciplines. She has taught internationally and studied under teachers such as Ali Cramer, Ruth Robbins, Nikki Costello, Judith Lasater, Rodney Yee, Brian Kest, Ellena Brower, Dana Flynn, and others.

Margot attributes her teachings to years of learning from life's experiences of loss, love, challenge, and joy. She believes that the practices are an extension of your life and we need to meet them with dedication, grace, and humility knowing that each challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand.

In class with Margot, you will find philosophy, deeply contemplating dharma, and widely fun sequencing. Margot is the queen of “the full experience” so expect to learn, laugh, let go, listen to some good tunes and be pushed to be nothing but yourself exactly as you are.
