June 2023

I recently heard an Arabic proverb “Some days are honey. Some days are onion.”

Wow ain’t that the truth. As I sat with this I initially thought, ‘man there have been a lot of onion days lately’. However, if you think about it, so many of the most delicious dishes have to have onion. We use them in almost everything. So yeah, when we eat them on their own or are served one giant onion after the next it can feel overpowering and unbearable. However, if we are able to take a step back and see that the onions are such an intricate part of the recipe of our lives we realize the true dish, the true self would not be the same without them. I also realized that onions, when cooked slowly over time, become sweet. Sometimes the hardest and most difficult situation does indeed just need time for us to feel and taste that sweetness.

So what I sit with this month is leaning into all the sensations that this life continues to throw my way. Pausing to notice if I can see the transformation occurring within or if I need to keep marinating for a while.

Love to you all,

Margot
