March 2021
Happy March!
With the spring equinox just a couple weeks away, I hope you are feeling some little hints that spring is coming!
The mantra I am sitting with this month comes from the anticipation of the equinox and the rejuvenation that arises with this shift of season. It also stems from a yearly ritual I have of “spring cleaning of the self,” or a spring cleanse to rejuvenate my body and mind after a long winter. This is inspired by my Ayurvedic studies and the first Niyama (self discipline or observance), Saucha. “Saucha literally means purity, cleanliness and clearness. It refers to purity of mind, speech and body. Saucha is one of the Niyamas of Yoga.” (wikipedia)
I welcome you to explore Saucha with me; let’s deep-dive into cleanliness, purity and how we can invite these qualities into our lives through daily observation, practice and awareness. I encourage you to take a look at what you’re bringing into your experience of being and inquire if it is helping to promote a clean body and mind. This is not just what you’re putting into your body food-wise, although extremely important, but also what are you ingesting into your mind? Is it helping to bring peace, assurance, gratitude and love into your life or elevating angst, competition and other kleshas, or afflictions? My suggestion, although I am clearly no doctor, is to take into consideration what you are putting into the body and mind and choose a week or so to simplify. Remove the heavy toxifying foods from your routine for a few days; lighten it up with more fresh, whole foods and veggies. Take a look at what you are watching on TV or reading, maybe hit pause on anything too violent or over-stimulating. Spend some time cleaning out the closets, removing clutter so your space feels a bit lighter. Get outside, breathe some fresh air. These are just a handful of my practices as we move into the new season and I invite you to play with how this could feel in your life!
Loving you,
Margot
